Certified Family Homes

Assisted Living in a Home Setting

Call (208) 917-3776 to discuss options.

Certified Family Homes are residential homes where the caregiver lives in the home and has met certain standards from the State of Idaho to provide care for up to 4 people. These homes are required to keep paperwork and meet recertification standards every year. Certified Family Homes, are like a mini assisted living within a home environment. They provide everything an assisted living facility does, on a smaller scale. Residents receive their own bedroom in the home and can utilize the rest of the home as their own like the dining room, patio, family room, front porch etc.

Care in a certified home is often excellent because of the low caregiver to resident ratio.

Pricing for Certified Family Home are comparable to Assisted Living facilities, sometimes more depending on the level of care of the resident. Some Certified Family Homes are run by very experienced or medically licensed people and can take residents with higher levels of care. Every resident that moves into a home, must be approved by Idaho Health and Welfare. The approval process can take anywhere from a day to 10 business days.

Certified Family Homes are as different as the people that run them. Often, they have specific residents they will accept or not. Sometimes these caregivers have a spouse, kids and pets that live in the home as well. Everyone living in the house has to be background checked and approved to be around vulnerable adults. Touring potential homes and chatting with caregivers at the home is essential to finding the right fit for a senior.

Seniors who do well at Certified Family Homes:

  • Don’t like the idea of an assisted living environment, would prefer to feel at home
  • Have extensive medical needs and don’t want to go to a skilled nursing environment
  • Likes the idea of a consistent caregiver that know them and their needs/routine
  • Is receiving Hospice Care
  • Is ok socializing with a smaller group of people or doesn’t enjoy large groups

There are other benefits to Certified Family Homes as a senior care choice. Call today to talk to a local senior care nurse in your area about the choices, as always, the call and the advice is FREE.
